Amazing Organs with Infinite Legacy introduces kids to the incredible parts inside our bodies. Through age-appropriate activities and discussion, participants will learn about different organs, what they do, and how they help keep us healthy. Kids will also hear a simple introduction to the idea of organ donation and how helping others can make a big difference. This program is designed for children in grades K - 5.

Animal Adaptations: Birds takes kids on a high-flying adventure to discover how birds are built to survive! From beaks and feathers to wings and claws, participants will explore the amazing ways birds eat, move, and stay safe through hands-on activities and fun discovery. Discover how creatures use special adaptations like camouflage, sharp senses, and powerful fins to find food, stay safe, and thrive in the ocean. Build It: Vehicles puts kids in the driver’s seat of creativity! Young builders will design and create their own rolling vehicle while exploring how things move. Through hands-on challenges and imaginative play, participants will test, tweak, and race their creations for high-speed fun! Inspired by I Survived the Destruction of Pompeii, AD 79, this action-packed program takes kids on a journey to ancient Rome as Mount Vesuvius erupts! Through exciting story moments and hands-on activities, participants will explore volcano science, discover what life was like in Pompeii, and see if they have what it takes to survive! This week - Hop aboard the Magic School Bus and explore the wonders of weather! Kids learn more about the different types of weather, observe experiments - making a cloud and kicking up a storm - and create a weather-watching apparatus.

Make a life size artwork of yourself! This program is for children in kindergarten through 5th grades (ages 5-10).

Explorers:  let's explore a world of art. This month we will learn about and create mosaics, an ancient form of creating pictures and patterns from small other items. Be prepared to get a little messy and take home a creation or two.  Our last evening this spring quarter of Elementary Explorers, we will pick up again in the fall!

Two Free Helen Smith Workshops Sponsored by the Delaplaine will be offered---one for ages 6-8 at 1:00 pm and one for ages 9-12 at 3:00 pm.  Registration with the Delaplaine Arts Center is required! To request registration for the May workshops at Brunswick Library, fill out the form that will appear on the Delaplaine website on Tuesday, April 21st at noon: Free Workshops for Kids | The Delaplaine Arts Center   1:00-2:30 pm AGES 6-8 Big Zines Class Description: Create your own mega magazine (zine) by learning a fun folding technique! Use watercolor to splash the zine with color and continue to add to it creatively while learning a variety of techniques.   3:00-4:30 pm AGES 9-12 Needle Felted Friends Class Description: Explore sculpting with wool! Needle felting is a process which transforms wool fibers by interlocking and condensing them to create 2D or 3D works of art! Work with colorful wool and felting needles to learn and practice techniques as you create a fuzzy felted friend.   These workshops are a part of the Delaplaine's Community Outreach Initiative and are made possible through donations from the Helen L. Smith Scholarship Fund for Children and the Arts at the Community Foundation of Frederick County.

Kick off Summer with Trucks! Come “touch” a variety of trucks and vehicles! Learn all about and snap photos next to (or inside!) these cool vehicles. Sign up for the Summer Challenge. Rain or shine, appropriate for all ages. Event will start at 10:00 am---please no early birds!

Join us for a hands‑on introduction to the world of flowers! Elementary and Teen participants will learn the basics of caring for fresh flowers, including how to keep them healthy, hydrated, and long‑lasting. We’ll also explore the many career paths connected to flowers—from floral designers and greenhouse growers to botanists and landscape architects. After learning the essentials, participants will assist with a collaborative group arrangement. By the end of the program, we’ll have created a beautiful community display that will be showcased in the library for everyone to enjoy.

Come spend an hour dancing and having fun at our Prom for teen and young adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities! Sensory friendly prom related activities will be provided. Fancy dress encouraged but not required! Ages 13+.

Painting with coffee? Drawing with rice? It sounds weird, but it works! We'll make paper look antique with coffee, then use rice to help create a map of an imaginary country. This program is for teens in 6th through 12th grades (ages 11-18).

Make your own boba drink and learn more about this Taiwanese treat on National Boba Day! This program involves food and allergens may be present. In accordance with county regulations, participants who would like to consume food must be at least 13 years old. This program is for teens in 6th through 12th grades (ages 11-18).

Are you a bug lover? Or just curious about insects and nature? Come get up close and personal with exciting insect specimens and a few arthropods! Michael Turell, Research Entomologist,will be joining us with his collection and expertise to talk about insects and why they look the way they do. He'll also share some information about the City Nature Challenge. His 4-H Entomology Club, participated in the City Nature Challenge last year, and contributed 1,277 observations with at least 557 different species. We will be introducing the iNaturalist App on the library's iPad to show how we can contribute by identifying plants and creatures in our area. Ages 8-13.
