The People’s Insurance Counsel Division (PICD) represents Maryland consumers’ interests regarding homeowners (HO) and medical professional liability (MPL) insurance issues. We review insurance company filings and consumer complaints ranging from premium increases to denials of claims to determine if there are insurance issues which need to be brought to the attention of the state legislature. We produce educational materials to assist consumers in understanding their insurance policies and conduct in-person outreach events to talk to individual consumers about issues they are facing.  Please stop by to listen to a brief presentation, learn more, pick up some materials, and discuss anything you’d like regarding HO and MPL insurance.

Join the members from Assisting Hands for an educational program that explores the importance and ins and outs of Long-Term Care (LTC) insurance. They assist participants in better understanding their policies and to avoid common mistakes that can lead to denied claims or unused benefits. The presentation also highlights the critical role of having a Power of Attorney (POA) in place, as this person is often responsible for initiating claims when policyholders are most vulnerable. Following the session, attendees can schedule one-on-one policy reviews and receive a clear, easy-to-read report to ensure they and their families are prepared to access their coverage when it’s needed most.
