Park Ranger Mark Spurrier shares his experiences with bears in Maryland and reads his picture book, "Big Bears".  Black bears are the largest land mammal in Maryland. Learn about these native creatures that could literally be in your backyard. Touch a black bear hide, measure yourself against a black bear track mold, explore a bear skull and scat replica.

Amazing Organs with Infinite Legacy introduces kids to the incredible parts inside our bodies. Through age-appropriate activities and discussion, participants will learn about different organs, what they do, and how they help keep us healthy. Kids will also hear a simple introduction to the idea of organ donation and how helping others can make a big difference. This program is designed for children in grades K - 5.

Discover how creatures use special adaptations like camouflage, sharp senses, and powerful fins to find food, stay safe, and thrive in the ocean. Get ready to go bananas with this bright and bouncy preschool program all about one of our favorite fruits—bananas! Designed for ages 3–5, this playful session blends early literacy, movement, and sensory exploration into one a-peel-ing experience. This program encourages imagination, strengthens early learning foundations, and—most importantly—celebrates the joy of being a little bit silly. Perfect for curious preschoolers and their grown-ups who love to learn, laugh, and play. Come join us for a bunch of fun!

Get ready to run, jump, and play! Preschoolers and their caregivers enjoy simple outdoor games that build coordination, teamwork, and confidence—all while having tons of fun in the fresh air. In the event of inclement weather, this problem will be held inside the library. 

Young Padawans and their adults are invited to explore a galaxy full of imagination! In this playful, age‑friendly spaced-themed program, preschoolers can build droids, practice “Force” moves, and travel through space using their curiosity and creativity. Costumes welcome! 

With help from their caregivers, let your little artist explore the fun of 3D art! Children get hands‑on with clay, dough, and playful building materials as they create their own imaginative sculptures. This program encourages creativity, problem‑solving, and fine motor skills in a joyful, mess‑friendly space designed just for preschoolers.

Are you a bug lover? Or just curious about insects and nature? Come get up close and personal with exciting insect specimens and a few arthropods! Michael Turell, Research Entomologist,will be joining us with his collection and expertise to talk about insects and why they look the way they do. He'll also share some information about the City Nature Challenge. His 4-H Entomology Club, participated in the City Nature Challenge last year, and contributed 1,277 observations with at least 557 different species. We will be introducing the iNaturalist App on the library's iPad to show how we can contribute by identifying plants and creatures in our area. Ages 8-13.

Local Educator and Architect Forrest Popkin unveils how architects think, create, and communicate their designs. Take part in a guided activity to begin thinking and crafting spaces of your own with simple scaled models. You are encouraged to come with questions about his background, education, his day to day activities to learn more about architects and architecture.
