Join us in the magic of making an enchanted forest, as our community window art theme "Into the Woods" continues throughout 2026 at the Point of Rocks library. First, we made trees. Now we’re adding miniature woodland creatures and habitats for them.  Ideal for ages 8 and up. Younger ages will require adult supervision. No special skills necessary. Super fun for friends and families, groups or singles. Newcomers welcome! Participants can come and go anytime during the 2-hour program.

Visit beautiful Othello Regional Park to “touch” a variety of trucks and vehicles. Learn all about each vehicle and snap photos next to (or inside!) them. This event is rain or shine and appropriate for all ages. Parking is limited - please plan to carpool. Event will start at 11:00 am---please no early birds! There will be food trucks at the event with food available for purchase. In this children's version of Mozart's The Magic Flute, Papageno learns the importance of music and love to bring friends together and overcome challenges.  With large, storybook illustrations by MICA graduate Lingyan Gu, and libretto by Kimberly Christie, the characters act out the story as if they have come to life from the page.  The program features arias and duets from the full opera and encourages student participation as the opera chorus.  Students learn that an opera is a story that is told through music in a format that is already familiar.

Odds and Ends Art Afternoon invites elementary-aged kids to get creative while school’s out! Using a mix of fun and unexpected materials, kids will craft a unique art project, explore their imagination, and enjoy a laid-back hour of artistic fun with friends at the library.

Stop by and let your creativity bloom. Various art supplies with be on hand to create and make. You can take your projects home or leave them for display in our children’s department. Ages 6-10 (children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult).

Then say good-bye as your stuffie stays behind for two days of fun adventures. Come back to pick up your stuffed friend anytime on Wednesday and see all of the fun they had! Join Middletown Library for Beauty and the Beast Storytime and Dance Experience, presented by Leading Edge Academy of Dance. Families will enjoy a narrated retelling of the beloved tale brought to life through live dance performances inspired by Belle, the Beast, and the enchanted characters of the castle. Additionally, students will take an in-depth look at life cycles, how different insects feed, and how pollinators impact local farms and orchards.  Based in Fairfield, Pennsylvania, the Strawberry Hill Foundation has been inspiring stewardship of our natural world through programming and events since 1986. Their network of volunteers works to protect various wetlands in direct support of our own Monocacy River.  This program is part of the Suzanne Metheny Memorial Program Series. A long time staff member at the Thurmont Regional Library, Suzanne passed away in September 2025. This Memorial Series was established by her family and friends to celebrate Suzanne's love of curiosity, learning, and community connection.

Michael Turell, Research Entomologist,will be joining us with his collection and expertise to talk about insects and why they look the way they do. He'll also share some information about the City Nature Challenge. His 4-H Entomology Club, participated in the City Nature Challenge last year, and contributed 1,277 observations with at least 557 different species. We will be introducing the iNaturalist App on the library's iPad to show how we can contribute by identifying plants and creatures in our area. Ages 8-13.
