Join us on a Tyke Hike to Washington Monument State Park, which hosts the first monument completed to honor the memory of George Washington. Please drive up the mountain to the top parking lot; there is an optional pay station at the bottom, but you are not required to pay. We will meet at the pavilion near the top parking lot and will have signs out directing people. We will do a quick meet and greet with a couple storytime songs and rhymes and then begin our 0.4 mile round trip hike. The trail from the parking lot is graded gravel with logs crossing the path in several places to minimize erosion. After a gentle but steady uphill section (less than 0.1 mile), the A.T. turns right down the hill and a side trail to the left leads you about 500 feet to the base of the monument. To reach the top of the monument requires climbing a few dozen steps (this can be done on your own if desired, but our hike will end at the base of the monument where we will enjoy the beautiful view). People are then welcome to remain longer or to continue back to the bottom of the trail with FCPL staff.
