What is Summer Reading?

A free, fun program for kids birth-high school. Kids and teens do activities at home or at the library and earn the chance to win prizes! Sign-up online by selecting your program above or visit your local library to register and see a list of programs. Kids who register online should visit the library to pick up their Summer Reading materials. The teen program can be completed entirely online but teens should visit the library in order to pick up their free Keys ticket and Passport.

What can we win?

Prizes! - Just for signing up, kids and teens are registered for the Grand Prize drawing: a chance to win a trip to the Great Wolf Lodge Waterpark! Kids are also registered for a chance to win a Kindle Fire, and teens could win a Playstation 4.

Wacky Wednesdays at C. Burr Artz!

Join us again this summer as we get a little bit wacky on Wednesdays! Each Wednesday we will be dressing up for some wacky theme and invite everyone to do the same.

The weekly themes are:

June 4: Tie-Dye Day
June 11: Mismatched Clothes Day
June 18: Dress Like a Librarian Day
June 25: Mad Scientist Day

July 2: Red, White and Blue Day
July 9: Prince, Princess and Knight Day
July 16: Favorite T-Shirt Day
July 23: Sports Day
July 30: Favorite Storybook Character Day

August6: Superhero Day

2 o'clock STEM Wednesdays

Join us Wednesdays for this nine-week series to see fun, fast, and amazing STEMonstrations. Get ready: there may be an opportunity for hands-on experimentation!
On June 25 (Egg Drop Challenge), July 23 (Bottle Rocket Challenge), and August 20 (Slingshot Challenge), we will have special STEMsational Challenges. Contact the library for more information and to register for these three events.

A Commedia: Princess and the Pea

Join us at the site of the new Walkersville Library on South Glade Road across from Creamery Park for our end of summer celebration. Bring your chair or blanket and snacks to sit back and enjoy this hilarious family comedy before the busy school year begins! Presented by the FUN Company.

Arlequin is afraid he’ll be stuck playing the role of the pea, but he ends up getting to play the prince. The troupe romps through a series of hilarious princess tests with great slapstick humor! A fairy godmother in this story? Rosetta’s playing the role, whether the troupe likes it or not!

Frederick County Public Libraries teams up with Westview Promenade for Free, Fantastic Fun every First Friday. Just drop by for a variety of story time, music, games, and crafts. Each month features a special theme and unique activities. Best for ages 2-6 with an adult.

*no July session due to Holiday*

*If inclement weather is occurring, the event will be held inside the vacant storefront next to MOM's Organic Market.*
