The Walkersville branch will be closed from 3/16 to 4/2 for some much-needed “sprucing up” and building maintenance to provide an improved experience for our patrons. Materials may be returned to any of the other branches and at our Community Bookmobile. Items placed on hold will be delivered to the Thurmont Regional Library.
The sixth annual Frederick County Spelling Bee Championship was held on February 23 at Governor Thomas Johnson High School. Open to students through eighth grade, the event pitted thirty elementary and middle school students against each other with words like “pochismo,” “hibachi,” and “abdicate.”
Yesterday morning FCPL debuted our new website. Unfortunately as part of the process it has caused difficulties for some of our patrons in communicating with the catalog properly. These issues have been corrected but there may be a period of time before they show for our patrons. Please try refreshing the page by holding down the CTRL key and pressing the R key. If that does not work - please clear your cache and try accessing the site again. This process should complete within the next few days.
You may now register online for a Library Card by filling out our Online User Registration form in the online catalog. Once you've received your Temporary ID number, visit any FCPL Branch to pick up your permanent card. You may use your Temporary ID number to place a hold on up to three items. Proof of address is required. For a child without proof of address, a parent's proof of address is needed.
Most FCPL materials may be renewed two times unless another customer has placed a hold on the title. Downloadable eBooks or audiobooks may be renewed once. Some Interlibrary Loan materials (those from other Maryland public libraries) can be renewed with special permission by bringing the item into the library. See Borrowing Things: Checkouts, Loan Terms and Fines for more information.
If you receive notification by email, this change does not apply to you.
Patrons who have been previously notified by mailed postcard will now be notified by a telephone call as soon as the items on hold become available. As a result, you will be able to pick up your items several days earlier.
If you prefer to continue receiving notifications by postcard, please advise our staff and they can make the adjustment to your account.
We hope you are pleased with this enhanced service, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
