Think with BINK: Bright Ideas Need Knowledge Banner Image.

Join Frederick County Public Libraries, the Fort Detrick Alliance, and BINK the Robot to get your 1st – 5th graders excited about STEM! The Think with BINK program invites visiting scientists from the Fort Detrick Alliance to teach children about STEM each month. The programs are specially designed to inspire elementary age children to pursue education and careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.

2014 Spelling Bee – A Champion is Crowned

Thirty-three Frederick County students competed to be the top speller on March 15th at the 2014 Frederick County Spelling Bee. When the Bee ended in the 26th round, Stephen Hochschild walked away the winner of the county’s seventh annual bee. Hochschild is an eighth grader at Mother Seton School and was also the winner of the 2012 Frederick County Spelling Bee. Pratulya Santharam, an eighth grader at Urbana Middle School, took second place.

Alternate Route to Thurmont Library

Alternate Route to Thurmont Library

Moser Road in Thurmont, between Frederick Road and the Thurmont Regional Library, is expected to be closed between 7:00am and 5:00pm on weekdays to accommodate the installation of new sewer lines. This work is expected to take place over the next two to three weeks. The Thurmont Regional Library is open normal hours during this time and the library and library parking lot entrance can be accessed by using alternate routes.

The C. Burr Artz Trust Poetry Series is honored to host Natasha Trethewey, the nineteenth United States Poet Laureate (2012-2013) at the Weinberg Center for the Arts in downtown Frederick on Sunday, March 2nd, at 2:00pm. Thanks to the generosity of the C. Burr Artz Trust, Frederick County Public Libraries, Frederick Reads, and the Weinberg Center, this event is free and open to the public.

Made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association (ALA), we are offering a five-part reading and discussion series led by Dr. Donald Wright, Director of Middle Eastern Studies at Hood College.
