Wireless Printing at C. Burr Artz Public Library

Frederick County Public Libraries is pleased to introduce a new wireless printing service at the C. Burr Artz Public Library thanks to the generosity of the C. Burr Artz Trust.

Patrons at the C. Burr Artz Public Library can now print wirelessly from their laptop or mobile devices via PrinterOn!

PrinterOn offers three easy ways to print wirelessly. Library patrons can quickly and easily submit printing jobs by:

Middletown Library Closed - September 5th to September 26th

Middletown Library Temporary Closure September 5th to 26th.

The Middletown Branch will be closed from Friday, September 5th, through Friday, September 26th to refurbish the library with new furniture and equipment, patron-friendly shelving, more technology and easier access to library materials.

Library patrons will be welcomed back to their new and improved community library on Saturday, September 27th after the ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 PM.

Fines, Fees and Renewal Changes - Effective July 1, 2014

Effective July 1st Frederick County Public Libraries will be increasing the number of renewals allowed for most items from two (2) times to three (3) times. Downloadable eBooks and audiobooks available for renewal may still be renewed only once. Interlibrary loan items available for renewal may still only be renewed twice. Materials may be renewed in person at the library, by phone, or through our online catalog. Patrons with blocked accounts will not be able to renew materials.

Farm City at C. Burr Artz Library Opens June 20th

Crossroads of Knowledge and Discovery. Farm City Opens June 20th.

Farmland and cityscape will converge at the C. Burr Artz Public Library thanks to a new educational, interactive installation for children. Created exclusively for FCPL by The Burgeon Group and modeled after the rolling farm country and cityscapes of the county, Farm City is a 400 square foot space designed to spark children’s imaginations and inspire interactive, self-paced learning.

Join Frederick County Public Libraries, the Fort Detrick Alliance, and BINK the Robot to get your 1st – 5th graders excited about STEM! The Think with BINK program invites visiting scientists from the Fort Detrick Alliance to teach children about STEM each month. The programs are specially designed to inspire elementary age children to pursue education and careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.

2014 Spelling Bee – A Champion is Crowned

Thirty-three Frederick County students competed to be the top speller on March 15th at the 2014 Frederick County Spelling Bee. When the Bee ended in the 26th round, Stephen Hochschild walked away the winner of the county’s seventh annual bee. Hochschild is an eighth grader at Mother Seton School and was also the winner of the 2012 Frederick County Spelling Bee. Pratulya Santharam, an eighth grader at Urbana Middle School, took second place.
