Interlibrary Loan

Materials FCPL does not own may be borrowed for free from other library systems via Marina, which searches the catalogs of all the public libraries in Maryland. Requests placed through Marina will go directly to the owning library, and the item shipped to Frederick County.

You will need to enter your Library card number and contact information to request an item.

What if I have trouble accessing Marina or get a System Error?

Marina is a third party service that searches the catalogs of all the public libraries in Maryland. If you owe fees or overdue materials on your library account you will be prevented from accessing Marina. Very occasionally Marina will experience technical difficulties that prevent access to the system. You may still place an Interlibrary loan remotely by calling the Information Desk of any branch or by filling out the forms within Marina in the My Account Area. Click on Article or Book under Add Request to start the process. Very occasionally Marina will experience technical difficulties that prevent access to the system, please check back later.

What about materials that can’t be borrowed through Marina?

These may be requested through Marina by placing a Book or Article request from the My Account page of Marina, or at the Information Desk in any branch of Frederick County Public Libraries.

I need to talk to someone in the ILL Department or Cancel a request

Fill out our Contact the ILL Department form completely and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

All materials

Be sure to provide full bibliographic information about the item you need, including author, title, and publication date. Additional information such as ISBN or an owning library is helpful.

Journal and newspaper articles

Journal articles are usually emailed as a link, so a valid email on file is required. Please include page numbers.  If microfilm is lent, it must be used on site at FCPL. Copies made from microfilm reader/printers are $.25 per page.

I don't belong to Frederick County Public Libraries - how do I get one of your books?

If you live or work in Maryland or have a library card from any public library system in Maryland, you may request a book from FCPL through your local library ILL service.

If you do not live or work in Maryland, and do not have a library card from a Maryland public library, please print the record of the item you want from the FCPL catalog and make the request through your own public library’s ILL office.
