Film Discussion - Almost Blue Mountain City: The History of Thurmont, Maryland

The Thurmont Center for Agricultural History and The Maryland Room are proud to introduce a new film by award-winning filmmaker, Chris Haugh. Over the last ten years, Mr. Haugh researched archives and interviewed local citizens sharing memories and stories about the significant manifestations of the town since its founding in 1751. Mr. Haugh recently won a local Emmy for the film “Heart of the Civil War.” He will share portions of the 3 hour documentary, share stories of the people he met during the filming as well as answer questions about the project.

Community Toy Swap

Is your house filled with toys that no one plays with? Want to get your kids something new to play with? Drop in during our community toy swap and freshen up your toys without spending a dime. Bring a new or gently used toy and swap it for another. Any leftover toy donations will be sent to Goodwill.

Guidelines: Children must be accompanied by an adult. Games and puzzles must include all pieces. Anything cloth (i.e. stuffed animals, etc) must be laundered before bringing in.

Urbana Library Writing and Art Contest Reception

Join our talented local artists and writers for a celebration of their work. All those who submit their work for the Urbana Library Writing and Art Contest will receive a free copy of a full-color literary magazine containing their work. All those who won in their category will be invited to share their work by reading aloud and displaying their artwork. Extra copies of the beautiful literary magazine will be available for purchase.
