Frederick County Public Libraries takes the security and confidentiality of your personal data very seriously. We do not retain records of your account activity and personal data beyond what is necessary to conduct account operations properly. Credit card payments are processed in compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard to ensure secure transactions.

Read the following for information on how we collect, store, and protect your information.

I. Information Collected

In order to process your credit card payment, it is necessary for us to collect your name and credit card information. We only collect the minimum amount of information required to process your payment. This includes your name, credit card number, expiration date, and CVV code.

II. How We Protect Your Information

At the time your payment is processed, all of your information is encrypted to keep it private. We use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to protect the security of your credit card information as it is transmitted. Your information is stored in a secure database on a server housed in a secure area. Credit card numbers are encrypted, rather than being saved as plain text. While we require you to enter your card’s CVV code to prevent fraud, we do not store it. At no time does your full card number get displayed – not even for our staff. For the purposes of assisting patrons with individual transactions, only the last four digits of your card number can be provided.

III. Who Sees Your Information

We keep your credit card information private. We do not share or sell your information to anyone.

IV. PCI Compliance

Everything that we do to collect, store, and protect your credit card information is done in full compliance with the standards set forth by the PCI Security Standards Council, LLC.
